Texas Bitcoin Miners Stop Mining Due To Heat Wave Risk To Power Grid
In response to a request from The Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT), Texas-based Bitcoin (CRYPTO: BTC) miners shut down on Monday.
What Took Place: According to Bloomberg, almost all Bitcoin miners in the state have shut down due to the prolonged heatwave, which has brought the Texas electrical grid dangerously close to collapse.
According to Lee Bratcher, president of the Texas Blockchain Association, mining operations have already discharged over 1,000 megawatts of load.
This accounts for nearly all of Texas' industrial-scale Bitcoin mining demand and enables the grid to reclaim over 1% of its overall capacity for retail use.
